User Interview Script Templates for SaaS

Choose the product decision you need to make, then copy a complete interview script. Each template is public, shareable by URL, valid UserTold Study JSON, and useful as a standalone discussion guide even if you conduct the interview yourself.

Copy the right kind of script

Use a Talk interview for discovery, switching decisions, concept reactions, and feature-request investigation. Anchor questions in a recent real event and ask one question at a time.

Use Speak → Observe → Talk → Speak for onboarding, pricing, checkout, setup, or another real product task. Give a neutral task, stay quiet while the participant works, then ask about captured moments in a planned debrief.

Every linked template includes:

  • a focused research goal;
  • participant selection guidance;
  • neutral questions;
  • complete Study JSON with a copy button;
  • a copyable prompt that an agent can use to adapt the script;
  • a checklist for reviewing the result.

Ask your agent to choose and adapt a template

Help me choose and adapt a UserTold interview template for a product decision.

Read https://usertold.ai/guides/research-script-templates first. Ask what decision I need to make, who recently experienced the relevant situation, and whether they can use the real product during the interview. Recommend one linked template and explain why it fits. Adapt its goal, task, and interviewer instructions to my product, show me the complete draft, and wait for my approval before changing or activating a Study.

The same workflow is available as the shareable UserTold study-design Agent Skill.

Set up and test the script

Open Studies, create a Study, and build the sequence shown in the chosen template. For CLI or MCP, copy its JSON and validate it before saving. Study Design explains fields and advancement rules; Quickstart covers installation and the first complete test.

Run the saved Study yourself through the same entry path participants will use. Confirm that each step advances, observation stays quiet, and the debrief refers only to activity the product actually captured. Then inspect the recording, transcript, timeline, and Evidence before inviting more participants.

Keep the conclusion connected to the source

A script creates an opportunity to learn; it does not validate a conclusion by itself. Review what the participant said, what the product observed, and what the analysis inferred as separate parts of the record. Compare related and contradictory moments before reviewing a Finding or sending anything to Linear or GitHub.
